The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has announced that customers can still upgrade their meters despite the November 24 deadline passing.

In a statement, the DisCo noted that customers who have not upgraded their meters will not be able to vend but clarified that the upgrade process is still ongoing.

“Can I still upgrade my meter now that the Token Identifier rollover deadline is over? Yes! You can still upgrade your meter to STS 2,” Eko DisCo said.

The power distributor advised customers to visit its website to obtain two sets of 20-digit KCTs (Key Change Tokens) and load them sequentially to upgrade their meters.

“Do note that this upgrade is mandatory. You will not be able to vend or load your token until your meter is upgraded. This upgrade is free,” it was stated.

It was reported on Monday that, unless there is a last-minute intervention, approximately three million electricity customers could face estimated billing or even a complete loss of power due to their failure to upgrade their prepaid meters.

By Sunday, when the deadline expired, numerous customers complained about being unable to update their meters. Some cited technical issues during the update process, while others reported power outages.

Many also received notifications that their meters were obsolete and could not be upgraded.

It was gathered that customers with non-upgradeable meters would either face power outages or revert to estimated billing if they cannot wait for their DisCos to provide them with new meters.

Alternatively, some individuals may choose to purchase new meters if the wait for a free device from their utility companies is too long.
