Meta’s microblogging platform, Threads, is experiencing rapid growth, with users increasingly favoring the app over competitors like X.
During Meta’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads now boasts 320 million monthly active users, up from 300 million in December and 275 million in November.
While the month-over-month increase is modest, it signals that Threads is solidifying its place in the competitive social media landscape, which includes platforms such as Bluesky, Mastodon, and X.
In contrast, Bluesky’s growth has slowed significantly, rising by less than 10% in December following a 189% surge in November, according to analytics firm Similarweb. Bluesky currently has 26.44 million users.
Zuckerberg also revealed that Threads is attracting more than 1 million new users daily, further underscoring its expanding influence. To maintain momentum, Meta has been rolling out new features, including post scheduling and view count displays.
Additionally, the company is reportedly testing advertising options in the U.S. and Japan, hinting at potential monetization strategies for the platform.
Meta’s Chief Financial Officer, Susan Li, highlighted ongoing improvements to Threads’ recommendation algorithms, which will prioritize recent posts, showcase content from top creators, and enhance visibility for followed accounts. The company is also refining custom feeds, allowing users to curate their experience based on personal interests.
