The former chief operating officer of Meta, Sheryl Sandberg, on Wednesday said on Facebook that she will be leaving her role as a director of the company in May when her term comes to an end.
In the post, Sandberg stated, “Meta business is strong and well-positioned for the future, so this feels like the right time to step away.” She added that she would be an advisory role in the company afterwards.
CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg expressed his excitement for “a new chapter together” in response to Sandberg.
After serving as the company’s chief operating officer for almost 14 years and as a board member for 12 years, Sandberg made her choice. In 2022, Sandberg resigned as the head of operations at Meta.
Sandberg, one of the most prominent executives at the corporation and the primary creator of its much-criticized ad-based business model, was formerly second in command to founder Zuckerberg.
Prior to joining Facebook, Sandberg held the positions of chief of staff for the US Treasury Department under former President Bill Clinton and vice president of global online sales and operations at Google.
