Meta announced on Wednesday, that it would soon make WhatsApp Channels, a broadcast service that allows users to follow thought leaders, sports teams, and celebrities, available in more than 150 countries.
The action is being taken as Meta works to strengthen engagement across all of its social media applications and establish them as key hubs for interaction between content creators and their audience members.
The larger expansion occurs months after the June launch of WhatsApp Channels in Singapore and Colombia.
On Instagram, the Broadcast Channels feature was simultaneously made available worldwide.
On WhatsApp, channels and chats are distinct, and followers cannot see one another.
According to Meta, users will be able to view suggested WhatsApp Channels based on popularity and location. Emojis can be used to respond to messages in a channel, just like in WhatsApp chat.
