Meta’s Threads is getting ready to deliver a highly requested feature: Trends in an effort to more effectively compete with X, previously Twitter.
A Threads user discovered the change in a screenshot that a Threads employee unintentionally released over the weekend. The screenshot included a numbered list of current subjects along with the amount of “threads” that were actively debating each issue.
User Willian Max discovered the message and believes it was intended to be sent to a private internal feed for Meta staff members only.
The graphic displays current events like Billboard’s Latin Music Week or the arrival of Loki Season 2 on Disney+, as well as top trends like Drake’s latest album, which is currently at No. 1. Instagram hasn’t responded to the reports as of yet.
In contrast to X, Threads’ primary Trends list does not seem to be supplemented by additional trending lists by category, such as News, Sports, and Entertainment, or a list of Trends that are customised “For You.”
The Meta-run app hopes to take advantage of the ongoing turbulence and changes on the Elon Musk-owned microblogging network to entice users to switch to Threads, thus the feature would be another step towards making Threads more competitive with X.
Since Threads’ July 5 launch, when it amassed 100 million members more swiftly than any other programme before it, the network’s usage has decreased.
However, the Threads team has been releasing additional features quickly to complete the app. These additions include support for a chronological feed, a web app, simple profile switching, a means to display liked posts, and, most importantly, search functionality.
