The parent company of Instagram, Meta, is trying a novel method to enhance engagement on Threads, its messaging app.
This experiment involves allowing users to cross-post photos from Instagram directly to Threads, a feature aimed at fostering greater connectivity between the two platforms.
Confirmation of the trial came from Meta after a few Threads users spotted the option within Instagram settings. Initially reported by TechCrunch, the move signals Meta’s ongoing efforts to explore innovative strategies for enhancing user engagement.
According to Meta, the cross-posting functionality from Instagram to Threads is optional, providing users with the flexibility to choose whether they want their new photo posts automatically shared to their Threads account. Participants in the test can conveniently adjust cross-posting settings within the Instagram app to suit their preferences.
This trial aligns with Meta’s broader objective of bolstering the growth and user base of Threads, which currently boasts 150 million users. In addition to cross-posting from Instagram, Meta has previously experimented with similar features, such as cross-posting from Facebook to Threads.
Furthermore, the company actively promotes Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram feeds, irrespective of whether users are active on the Threads app. Additionally, Meta is incentivizing creators to engage more actively on the platform by offering bonuses for high-performing posts on Threads. These concerted efforts underscore Meta’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant and interconnected ecosystem across its various social media platforms.
