A potential new feature for Meta Quest VR headsets has been discovered in the system’s code, suggesting users may soon be able to share 2D windows with others in their virtual space.

The discovery was first reported by UploadVR after a deep dive into the operating system.

The feature was uncovered by a VR enthusiast known as Luna, who shared their findings on the social media platform X. Luna identified a string in version 76 of Horizon OS, which appears to describe a “share” function allowing users to display a panel to others in the same virtual environment.

The code also includes a corresponding “unshare” command, hinting at the ability to toggle the feature on and off.

“Strings in Quest/Horizon OS v76 PTC suggest that Meta is working on the ability to share windows with other users in Horizon Home (and possibly Worlds),” Luna stated in their post, comparing the feature to Apple’s SharePlay on visionOS.

If implemented, this feature could enable users to share web browsers or other 2D windows within their virtual homes. While the Quest platform already offers some sharing functions—such as broadcasting first-person VR or mixed reality views—there are currently no apps that allow users to share specific windows in this way.

Apple’s SharePlay on visionOS currently supports shared viewing experiences across multiple apps, including Hulu, Max, and Apple TV Plus. Meta has yet to confirm the existence of the feature.
