The parent company of Facebook, Meta plans to roll out a “Community Notes” feature for organic content on its platforms later this year, but it will not apply to paid advertisements, Reuters reported.

The feature, similar to the one used by Elon Musk’s social media platform X, will initially focus on non-promoted posts.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the development, noted that brand and influencer posts classified as organic may also be excluded from Community Notes during the initial rollout.

While Meta has confirmed plans to phase in Community Notes over the next few months in the U.S., a spokesperson emphasized that the feature’s design and application will undergo regular evaluation and refinement.

“We are making the transition to Community Notes over the next couple of months in the United States and, as with any new product rollout, we’ll continually evaluate and improve it over the course of the year,” a Meta spokesperson stated. They also dismissed speculative claims about the program’s final structure.

The introduction of Community Notes represents a significant shift in Meta’s approach to moderating political and factual content.

Last week, the company discontinued its U.S. fact-checking program and announced the transition to this new system ahead of the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
