A powerful explosion has struck a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The blast occurred late Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction. Thick black smoke and flames rapidly spread into the surrounding mangrove forest, as seen in videos circulating on Tuesday morning.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and authorities have yet to confirm whether it resulted from sabotage or an operational fault.
This incident follows recent threats from militant groups to attack oil facilities, citing grievances over the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation due to ongoing political disputes.
The Trans Niger Pipeline is a critical transport route for crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal.
When contacted, Rivers State Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said she would investigate and provide updates. However, no further details had been released at the time of this report.
Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the cause and assess the extent of the damage.
