The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control have both issued a strong warning, requesting that all distributors, importers, manufacturers, and company representatives immediately stop supplying medications to any establishments in Sabon Gari Market, Niger Street, or any other location outside of the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Dangwauro, Kano State.
Nairametrics reported that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control issued this urgent call to action in a circular.
In reaction to the Court of Appeal’s most recent ruling, the court has directed Kano medication merchants to vacate Niger Street/Sabon Gari Market and relocate to the Coordinated Wholesale Centre at Dangwauro, Kano.
This action is to prevent the market from being filled with counterfeit and subpar medications by streamlining the delivery of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, etc. while maintaining a controlled and regulated environment.
Companies that are discovered to be in breach of this guideline could have their site licences and product licences revoked, among other catastrophic penalties.
Hospitals, retailers, and other distribution chain participants are also included in the call to action. In order to preserve regulatory compliance and enhance the general safety and integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain in Kano, stakeholders are urged to abide by this guideline.
