Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Friday spoke with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the phone to discuss SpaceX’s satellite communications service and Tesla’s investment in the country.
“I welcome the company’s interest and decision to invest in Malaysia, and Elon Musk’s willingness to come to Malaysia,” Anwar said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Malaysia had given the electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla approval to import battery-powered EVs. According to the commerce ministry, Tesla will set up a network of charging points for its vehicles as well as an office, showrooms, and service centres in the nation of Southeast Asia.
According to Anwar, the two also talked about Starlink, a satellite communications service Musk founded and runs through his business SpaceX.
According to Anwar, Tesla will start operating in Malaysia this year.
