The front landing gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787 has collapsed while the aircraft was parked at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.
Video footage from the airport shows the jet stationary on a stand when the nose gear suddenly retracts, causing the front of the aircraft to drop and strike the ground.
The aircraft involved is a Boeing 787-9 named “Herne,” registered D-ABPQ.
It was delivered new to the airline in January 2026 and entered commercial service on 13 February, according to Bloomberg.
Neither Lufthansa nor airport authorities have yet issued a statement on the extent of the damage or confirmed whether anyone was injured.
Barely four months into operations, the Dreamliner has already operated long-haul routes to destinations including Delhi, Toronto, and Rio de Janeiro.
It had been scheduled to operate flight LH450 to Los Angeles today, with departure planned for 13:50 local time.
Following the incident, the Los Angeles service was cancelled.
Lufthansa is expected to rebook affected passengers on alternative flights, while the aircraft is likely to remain grounded pending inspection and repairs.
The incident recalls a similar case in 2021, when a British Airways Boeing 787-8 suffered a nose gear collapse at London Heathrow while being prepared for departure.
