The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has elected Mr. Leye Kupoluyi as its new President and Chairman of Council.
The announcement was officially made on Thursday by Dr. Chinyere Almona, Director General of LCCI, during the chamber’s 137th Annual General Meeting held in Lagos.
Kupoluyi’s appointment comes following the completion of Mr. Gabriel Idahosa’s tenure, which was a period recognized for its notable contributions to business advocacy and policy reforms within the industry. Dr. Almona described Kupoluyi as an accomplished professional who possesses an exceptional record of leadership, dedication, and service across various fields, including engineering services, trade promotion, and industry development.
Dr. Almona also stated that his election underscores LCCI’s recognition of his unwavering commitment to its core ideals, its policy advocacy efforts, and the sustained promotion of a thriving environment for Nigerian businesses.
She added, “We are delighted to welcome Engr. Kupoluyi as president of the LCCI. As a council member and key officer of the chamber, he has consistently contributed his expertise and provided valuable insights during strategic deliberations. We are confident that his presidency will further strengthen the chamber’s role as a leading advocate for sound business policies and practices. He will also advance the interests of our members and the broader business community.”
Kupoluyi brings more than 40 years of professional experience, spanning engineering, project management, and executive leadership roles. Since November 1994, he has served as the Managing Director of Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited. Prior to that, he held the position of General Manager at Witt +Busch Limited from May 1988 to November 1994 and was a Project Manager at Honeywell Enterprises Limited from August 1986 to May 1988.
His earlier career also included positions at Witt +Busch Limited as both a Service Manager and Senior Engineer. He began his professional journey as an Engineer at the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he worked from April 1979 to December 1984.
With Kupoluyi now at the helm, the LCCI is expected to continue its robust advocacy for policies that foster enhanced business growth and industrial development across Lagos and the entirety of Nigeria. His extensive experience in engineering and trade matters positions him uniquely to strengthen the Chamber’s influence in shaping a more business-friendly environment for both local and international investors.
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, founded in 1888, holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s oldest and one of its most influential business membership organizations. It serves as a vital platform for private sector engagement, advocating for sound business policies, trade promotion initiatives, and overall industrial growth.
The chamber’s functions include providing a forum for business leaders to collaborate, share essential insights, and influence economic policy formulation at both the state and federal government levels. Furthermore, the LCCI offers significant support to small and medium-sized enterprises through various capacity-building programs, business advisory services, and networking opportunities.
