LASBCA laments rising attacks on officials

The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Gbolahan Oki, has condemned the recent series of attacks on agency staff.

According to The PUNCH, he said this in response to a recent attack on its officials with hazardous weapons and charms while on routine patrol around Lagos’ Musical Village, Awolowo Road, and Ikorodu area.

He stated that no amount of intimidation or harassment would cause the agency to abandon its mission of maintaining safe and secure structures throughout the state.

“These assailants not only obstruct our staff, but also hold them hostage for hours. These acts of vandalism will not stop us from carrying out our responsibilities,” he said.

“Fortunately, we were able to repel these attacks with no casualties. Our employees’ fortitude and prompt responses were critical in overwhelming the attackers and preventing more serious outcomes.

“These are the kinds of issues we encounter on a daily basis in our efforts to ensure that the state’s buildings are secure and ready for rehabilitation.”

The LASBCA director urged the public to help the agency in its aim to reduce the threat of building collapses across the state.

He went on to say, “The incidents of harassment and attacks tend to jeopardize the agency monitoring activities and can potentially pose significant threats to the public.”

Despite the challenges, he reiterated the agency’s commitment to preserving and enforcing building standards in Lagos State.
