Lamborghini unveils Urus performance hybrid SUV after EV strategy shift

Lamborghini on Wednesday unveiled the Urus SE Performante, a new hybrid version of its high-performance SUV, as the Italian luxury carmaker deepens its focus on gas-electric models after shelving plans for a fully electric vehicle.

The Urus SE Performante features a more aggressive exterior with a larger front grille, redesigned hood scoops and upgraded interior finishes over existing Urus models.

Describing it as the “fastest Super SUV in the world,” Lamborghini said the hybrid model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph).

The Urus SE Performante is a plug-in hybrid SUV that combines a petrol-powered engine with a rechargeable battery and electric motor to enhance performance and efficiency.

According to Lamborghini, the model is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with an electric motor, generating a combined 812 horsepower and approximately 738 lb-ft of torque.

Lamborghini, which is owned by Volkswagen AG, said pricing for the Urus SE Performante will be announced closer to its U.S. market launch. The 2026 Urus SE currently starts at between $250,000 and $280,000, depending on the variant.

The Urus has been a key driver of Lamborghini’s growth since its debut nearly a decade ago.

According to Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann, the SUV accounts for about half of the brand’s global annual sales, with Lamborghini delivering nearly 11,000 vehicles worldwide last year.
