The Lagos State Government has confirmed that the electronic call-up system will be implemented on the Lekki-Epe corridor starting September 23, 2024.
This announcement follows the postponement of the system’s initial rollout, which was originally set for August 1, 2024.
The revised implementation date was officially communicated in a statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, shared via its official X account on Sunday.
“In a significant move to avert severe congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, the Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the e-call up system for managing truck movements within the axis from 23rd September 2024,” the statement read in part.
The statement highlighted that the e-call-up system, a digital platform designed to manage truck entry and exit, is intended to address the frequent traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking and disorganized truck movements on the Lekki-Epe corridor.
This need is underscored by the recent start of fuel distribution at Dangote Refinery, located in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, on September 15, which is anticipated to significantly boost truck traffic.
With major industrial hubs such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Lekki Deep Sea Port situated along the corridor, ensuring the efficient movement of goods is vital for Lagos’ economic vitality.
The e-call-up system is expected to be pivotal in streamlining logistics operations, alleviating congestion, and supporting sustainable development in the region.
It was earlier reported that trucks at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State have started lifting Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol.
This was disclosed in a video posted via the X account of Dangote Group on Sunday.
