Some supermarkets in Lagos are allegedly selling expired food items disguised as promotional offers, raising health concerns among consumers.
Shoppers report being misled by discount tags, only to discover that the products had expired weeks earlier.
In one case, Daniel Olanrewaju bought a bottle of ketchup from a promo shelf in Ikeja, only for his child to reject it due to a foul taste. The ketchup had expired three weeks before purchase.
Regulatory bodies like NAFDAC and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency have been criticised for failing to address the issue, as calls grow for stricter oversight and enforcement.
