Lagos shuts Quilox over environmental infractions

The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of the famous Quilox Restaurant Bar Night Club in Victoria Island due to safety and other environmental violations.

Officials from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Lagos State Safety Commission made the announcement on their official X handle on Sunday.

According to LASEPA, both agencies have advised social centers to ensure that their operations do not jeopardise the safety and well-being of other individuals, and have threatened to sanction any that do.

LASEPA also stated that Quilox Restaurant Bar Night Club was determined to be in violation of the agency’s basic environmental standards.

The agencies also issued warnings to Sol Beach, The Good Beach, and Landmark Beach for environmental infractions and inadequate safety precautions.

LASEPA wrote on its X account, “The Lagos State Government Seals Quilox and Issues Strong Warnings to Sol Beach, The Good Beach, and Landmark Beach for Environmental and Safety Violations.

“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Lagos State Safety Commission conducted a joint enforcement operation that resulted in the closure of Quilox nightclub due to environmental and safety violations.”

Recall an earlier press release in which both agencies warned social centers to ensure that their operations do not jeopardize the safety and well-being of other citizens and vowed to sanction any who did.

The Lagos State government closed the restaurant and bar club earlier this month due to environmental violations.

LASEPA authorities subsequently declared that the club was closed owing to a variety of issues, including extreme traffic congestion in the area and a flagrant violation of the agency’s directives.

“LASEPA officials sealed off Quilox Night Life, located on Victoria Island, due to significant environmental violations, following continuous petitions and thorough assessment.

“The decision to close the establishment was made due to a variety of factors, including severe traffic congestion in the vicinity and a flagrant disregard for the agency’s directives.”

However, the government later opened the club after its operators promised to adhere to safety rules.
