The electrified blue line rail’s daily trip count will rise from 54 to 76 before the year ends, according to a statement from the Lagos State Government.
This information was disclosed by the agency’s managing director, Abimbola Akinajo, at a briefing conducted in Lagos to commemorate the organization’s 20 years of existence.
According to Akinajo, the Blue Line Rail project’s second phase, which is now under construction and will run from Mile 2 to Okoko, will be finished in 2027.
Furthermore, after infrastructure development is expected to be finished in December 2024, the agency hopes to start conducting business on the Red Line corridor in the second quarter of that year.
Thirteen stations (Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, MMIA International, MMIA Domestic, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute Meta, Iddo, Ebute Ero, and Marina) are included in the 37-kilometer Red Line rail that is being proposed.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu opened the first section of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line to passenger traffic on September 4, 2023, and as of this writing, over 80,000 passengers have travelled through it.
The Lagos State Government announced earlier in October that it will be increasing the number of train journeys from 12 to 54. The goal is to reach 74 excursions on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line (Marina to Mile 2) by the end of November.
Additionally, it was predicted that over 150,000 passengers will pass through Marina and Mile 2 every day in the upcoming months.
When the 27 km Blue Line is finished, it should carry about 500,000 passengers per day, which will help Lagosians with their transit problems even more.
