Lagos set for ‘Oscars’ of Nigerian auto industry in 2026

Chery Automobile sales increase by 52.6%

The Nigeria Auto Journalists Association has formally announced that all necessary arrangements are in place for the highly anticipated 2025 NAJA Awards.

This major event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 16, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

The yearly awards ceremony is widely celebrated throughout the motoring community and is often regarded as the “Oscars” of the Nigerian automotive industry.
The evening is designed to bring together the most influential brands, regulators, distributors, innovators, and mobility stakeholders in the country for a night dedicated to industry reflection and celebration.

Speaking on the upcoming event, Frank Kintum, the Chairman of the NAJA Awards Organising Committee, characterized the 2025 edition as “a defining moment for Nigeria’s auto industry”. He further noted that the competition for this year is recognized as one of the strongest in recent years.

Kintum stated that “The industry has witnessed significant transformation over the past year— from electric mobility growth to new product rollouts and stronger aftersales investments. This year’s awards will capture these milestones and honour the people and organisations driving the progress,” underlining the significant developments within the sector.

He elaborated, adding that the awards function as more than just a prize-giving ceremony. Instead, they represent a vital opportunity for automotive professionals to network, exchange ideas, and draw attention to the specific innovations that are actively shaping transportation in Nigeria.

A list of high-profile dignitaries is expected to attend, which includes the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, Otunba Oluwe-mimo Joseph Osanipin.

The event organisers emphasized that the attendance of these key figures underscores the strategic importance of the ceremony regarding national road safety, automotive policy, and the future trajectory of local vehicle manufacturing.

In his final remarks, Kintum added that “Having the leadership of FRSC and NADDC with us reinforces the shared commitment to safer roads, stronger regulations, and the growth of our domestic auto sector.”
