Lagos reduces truck parking fee on Lekki-Epe axis

Tanker drivers using the Lekki-Epe corridor in Lagos State will now pay N10,000 per truck to access parks provided under the E-Call Up system.

The fee was reduced from N12,500 after a meeting between the Lagos State Government and stakeholders on Thursday.

The National President of the National Association of Road Transport Owners, Yusuf Othman, confirmed that a meeting was held on Thursday, during which stakeholders unanimously agreed to reduce the fee to N10,000, according to The PUNCH.

Othman said payment of the revised fee will begin on August 1.

It was earlier reported that the Lagos State Government had earlier announced the launch of the E-Call Up system on June 16.

However, the rollout was stalled after tanker drivers and fuel marketers declared a strike and suspended fuel lifting operations.

The drivers and marketers had informed the government that they were unwilling to pay the N12,500 fee, proposing instead to pay N2,500. The strike was called off on Tuesday to allow for a peaceful resolution during a meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Speaking, Othman stated, “We agreed to pay N10,000 effective from August 1st.”

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, stated that the E-Call Up system was introduced to regulate the movement of articulated vehicles and tankers along the Lekki-Epe corridor. He said the initiative aims to ensure orderly traffic flow and prevent the kind of gridlock that once plagued the Apapa area.

The Lekki-Epe corridor, home to major investments including the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and various oil and gas facilities, has seen a steady rise in industrial and commercial activity.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the E-Call Up system was introduced to prevent road chaos by regulating truck movements through a structured scheduling framework. Under the new system, truck operators are required to register online and upload their Authority-to-Load documents.
