The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to partner with stakeholders to achieve Zero-Carbon Lagos by 2055.

This was revealed during the inaugural stakeholders meeting organised by the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy to the Lagos State Governor, Titilayo Oshodi, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Commenting during the event, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the state Commissioner, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mosopefolu George, said climate change and the need for a circular economy was key as they are present realities that demand immediate and decisive action.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Lagos was not immune to these challenges, “because we are a coastal city and one of the most immediate impacts of climate change is sea-level rise, we are witnessing the increasing impacts of climate change, from extreme weather events to resource scarcity and pollution.”

He stated that the State is in a position to address these challenges and turn Lagos’s future into a better, more prosperous one.

“However, this inaugural stakeholders’ session is a testament to our recognition of the need for collective action to achieve the desired outcome.

“By working together, we can unlock the immense potential of the circular economy, create a more resilient and competitive city, and ensure a brighter future for generations to come,” he added.

Recall, in August, Sanwo-Olu had said the challenges posed by climate change should be tackled in partnership with donor organisations to cut across the waste, transportation, and energy sectors.
