The Lagos International Financial Centre Council was established by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with EnterpriseNGR, an advocacy group, with the aim of encouraging investment in Lagos.
According to The PUNCH, this was confirmed in a statement released on Friday, along with the news that the state has been asked to take part in the 805th parade of the Lord Mayor’s Show in London.
More than thirty percent of Nigeria’s GDP comes from Lagos. Ninety percent of Nigeria’s foreign trade is handled by the state, which also dominates the importation of foreign capital.
Speaking about the initiative, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who also serves as the council chair, emphasised that showcasing Lagos’s investment potential and establishing the state as a top destination for foreign investment are the main goals of this historic participation in the Lord Mayor’s Show.
“Lagos is not just going to London for the pageantry and parade; this visit has a more strategic purpose,” the speaker declared. “This is a fantastic chance to present Lagos on an international stage. The newly-opened LIFC Council represents not just a turning point for the organization but also a dedication to a daring goal: making Lagos the hub of financial innovation in Africa.”
The long-standing relationship Lagos and Nigeria have with the United Kingdom, Sanwo-Olu continued, “reflects a proud Commonwealth partnership since gaining independence in 1960.”
According to the statement, Lagos State and EnterpriseNGR collaborated because they both wanted to establish Lagos as the continent’s leading financial hub. The partners will create history by being the first African participants invited to take part in the 805th parade of the esteemed Lord Mayor’s Show in London.
“EnterpriseNGR’s participation in this historic delegation to the Lord Mayor’s Show underscores the critical role we play in driving transformative change within Nigeria’s financial and professional services sector,” stated the company’s chief executive officer, Ms. Obi Ibekwe, in her remarks.
“Not only do we support expansion, but we are also actively engaged in building a vibrant, connected, and dynamic FPS industry.”
The Lagos International Financial Centreville Council’s founding demonstrates our steadfast dedication to developing strategic alliances that advance Lagos’ and Nigeria’s economies.”
EnterpriseNGR is a member-led advocacy group that promotes Nigeria’s Financial and Professional Services industry as a driver for economic development.
