The Lagos State Government announced that the Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub recorded N2.495 billion in transactions during its first year, with contributions from 348 vendors.
This was disclosed in a statement by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, according to NAN.
The food hub attracted 75,000 visitors who engaged in trading activities over 81 market days designated for commercial transactions.
Olusanya emphasized that the Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub serves as more than just a marketplace; it is a transformative initiative in food distribution management in Lagos.
By offering farmers and traders a dependable platform to sell their produce, the hub has promoted fair pricing, minimized post-harvest losses, and established a more efficient supply chain that benefits both producers and consumers.
Since its inception, the food hub has been a catalyst for socio-economic growth, providing farmers and traders with a transparent and organized marketplace.
“The hub has boosted the livelihoods of vendors and market women, improved food accessibility for Lagosians through fair and affordable pricing, created job opportunities, and contributed to the economic growth of the community,” Olusanya stated.
She highlighted that the hub’s influence goes beyond Mushin, contributing significantly to Lagos State’s economic development by connecting rural producers with urban consumers.
“The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub stands as a model of innovation and sustainability, not only for Lagos but for Nigeria and Africa as a whole, she added.
She also noted ongoing initiatives under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, such as the Lagos Logistics Hub in Epe and the construction of additional fresh food agro-hubs at strategic locations across the state.
“These projects aim to streamline food supply chains, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities for Lagos’ growing population,” Olusanya said.
The Commissioner stated that the initiative highlights the success of strategic solutions in tackling systemic challenges, empowering communities, and driving economic growth.
She commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for its dedication to implementing impactful projects that focus on food security and economic empowerment for Lagos residents.
