The farmers who are beneficiaries of the Kwara State Government Agricultural Inputs and Irrigation Equipment Empowerment Scheme have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for improving the skills of local farmers and enhancing food production in the state.
This commendation was made during an impromptu inspection visit to the Salala Cluster Irrigation farm site in Afon, Asa Local Government Area of the State.
According to a statement released by the Press Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Yusuf Adebisi, the farm leader Alhaji Kayode Yusuf said “The irrigation empowerment programme has transformed rice production and that the group aims to establish a rice industrial estate in the state.”
It is worth noting that the state government in March empowered over 4,000 farmers across the 16 local government areas with free agricultural inputs and irrigation equipment to encourage all-year-round farming and increase food production.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado Alakawa, also assured the farmers of the state government’s continued support in achieving food sufficiency in the State and appreciated them for their contributions to the current administration’s all-year-round farming initiative.
Mallam in 2022 disclosed in a statement that “the present administration had earmarked 60 irrigation sites across the three Senatorial Districts of the State for the first phase of the programme, in addition to the procurement of irrigation facilities with a view to accelerating the state government plan on food security.”
