Kenyan logistics startup Leta expands into Ghana

Kenyan software startup Leta has announced its expansion into Ghana, marking its seventh market across Africa.

The move comes just months after it secured a $5 million seed funding round in March, a rare feat amid a sharp decline in logistics tech funding across the continent.

Founded in 2021 by Nick Joshi, Leta develops AI-powered logistics and supply chain software for businesses. Its expansion into Ghana follows its entry into Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mauritius, positioning the startup as a rising player in Africa’s logistics technology landscape.

Leta’s entry is particularly notable given the current investment climate. African logistics startups saw a 69% drop in funding over the past year, yet Leta’s recent capital raise—backed by Speedinvest, Google’s Africa Investment Fund, and climate-focused fund Equator—signals strong investor belief in its model and potential.

The startup’s first Ghanaian client is Simbisa Brands, a major quick-service restaurant group operating over 600 outlets in 11 countries. Leta’s technology will support the optimization of Simbisa’s supply chain operations in Ghana.

By entering the Ghanaian market, Leta not only deepens its continental footprint but also brings increased competition and innovation to the country’s logistics sector. The company’s ambition to become Africa’s go-to logistics software provider is gaining momentum, and its continued expansion could help reinvigorate investor interest in a struggling segment of the continent’s startup ecosystem.
