Kenya Airways has revealed that it transported over 10,000 passengers from Nigeria between 2023 and 2024, with Nigerians ranking among its top frequent fliers.

The airline emphasized that this underscores the strategic importance of the Nigerian market to both the company and the Kenyan government.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Kenya Airways’ Regional Manager for America and West Africa, Ngamau Stephen, announced that the airline increased its Lagos flight frequency from seven to 10 weekly flights in 2024, representing a 21% capacity boost.

Stephen stated that this increase offers greater flexibility and convenience for passengers, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to the Nigerian market.

He noted that two years ago, Kenya Airways introduced ‘Asante,’ an enhanced frequent flyer program to reward its most loyal passengers, with Nigeria among the first markets to experience the rollout.

He also emphasized the airline’s willingness to collaborate with local Nigerian carriers to improve domestic and regional connectivity, offering passengers more travel options within Nigeria and beyond.

Stephen praised the Federal Government for clearing airlines’ trapped funds, creating a more favorable environment for aviation operations.

He also commended the Kenyan government for its progressive visa waiver policy, which benefits most African countries, including Nigeria.

He said, “Kenya Airways appreciates the concerted efforts of the Nigerian government in facilitating the repatriation of airline funds. The government’s commitment to resolving key challenges in the aviation sector fosters a conducive environment for airlines to thrive. We look forward to leveraging this positive momentum to expand our operations and enhance service delivery.

“To promote tourism and leisure travel, Kenya Airways is introducing attractive stopover packages in Nairobi. These offerings will allow passengers to explore Kenya’s rich culture, wildlife, and scenic landscapes while in transit, further enhancing the overall travel experience.”
