Kano council approves ₦6.9bn for development projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total sum exceeding 6.9 billion naira for the execution of multiple projects aimed at enhancing welfare and accelerating development across various parts of the state.

The approval was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, following the 36th Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Kano on Thursday.

Waiya said the council approved more than 859.2 million naira as compensation for structures affected by a five-kilometre road construction project in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

He added that the council also approved about 358.5 million naira for storm water drainage projects in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

According to him, a further sum of 896 million naira was earmarked for the reconstruction of a failed culvert in Kiru Local Government Area.

Waiya explained that the Executive Council approved 2.6 billion naira for the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road.

He also said that 1.2 billion naira was approved for the construction of a box culvert, while 431.7 million naira was allocated for the graduation and empowerment programme of the Entrepreneurship Institute.

The commissioner further disclosed that 85.6 million naira was approved for water pipeline extension projects in Gwale Local Government Area.

He added that 285 million naira was approved for classroom construction, while 157,689,000 naira was set aside for the conduct of an anti-corruption workshop.

The Executive Council also approved the transmission of four bills to the Kano State House of Assembly, alongside the implementation of the Public-Private Partnership Policy and Manual.

Among the bills approved for transmission is the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025.

Also approved was the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025.

The council further approved the Kano State Education Bill 2025.

In addition, the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025 was approved, which seeks to rename the institution.

The council meeting also featured the presentation of awards recognising achievements in digital transformation, leadership excellence, housing development, healthcare delivery, community development, and support for vulnerable groups.

Waiya said, “Additionally, development partners presented a skills acquisition training package and donated a 32-seater coaster bus.’”
