The Kano State Government has awarded contracts worth over N40.8bn for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 township roads across the metropolitan area.
The projects, which cut across Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo Local Government Areas, were announced by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, during a tour of completed and ongoing works with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya, on Tuesday.
According to Waiya, the contracts include the Tudun-Yola–Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, valued at N1.896bn; the Jafar–Madobi Road and underpass, awarded at N1.323bn; as well as the rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road and Muhammad Buhari Road, costing N2.014bn and N4.108bn respectively.
Other major projects are the Rijiyar Lemo Road at N494.4m, erosion control works on the Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Kunau Kure Road valued at N205.98m, and the rehabilitation of Airport Road, which was awarded at N5.956bn.
Waiya explained that the state government is also investing in strategic rural roads, including N13.3bn for the Rogo–Bari–Falgore–Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA and N6.9bn for the Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Salkwayan–Dutse roads in Albasu LGA.
He noted that the road projects were carefully prioritised due to their economic and social importance. “These roads are designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents,” Waiya said.
The commissioner added that, once completed, the roads would ease the movement of people and goods, improve driving conditions, stimulate commerce, and enhance the transportation of farm produce to markets, thereby boosting local economic activities.
The massive infrastructure investment underscores the state government’s commitment to improving road networks within the metropolis and rural communities alike.
