The Democratic party’s nominee for the upcoming U.S. elections, Kamala Harris, has overtaken former President Donald Trump on Polymarket, the leading crypto-based prediction platform.
Harris’s odds of winning the November election have climbed to 52%, while Trump’s odds have fallen to 46%, down from 70% in mid-July.
This shift follows a series of online polls indicating Harris has gained a slight edge over Trump since Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
Polymarket announced the development on its X page, highlighting a growing trend of states turning blue. “Kamala Harris has opened up a 6% lead over Trump,” Polymarket tweeted, accompanied by an infographic showing the shifting state dynamics.
This trend reflects broader election sentiments, with Trump’s campaign appearing to lose momentum while Harris capitalizes on the boost following Biden’s exit. The U.S. election prediction market on Polymarket is currently the platform’s most active, with a trading volume of $572 million.
The Harris campaign is reportedly engaging with crypto entities as part of its strategy leading up to the election. Although Harris did not attend the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, which was viewed as a setback by the crypto community due to the Biden administration’s stringent crypto policies, her team is now seeking to address these concerns.
In contrast, Donald Trump has been an outspoken advocate for cryptocurrency. He was a keynote speaker at the Nashville conference, where he pledged to position the U.S. as a global leader in the crypto industry if elected.
In response, the grassroots organization Crypto4Harris aims to boost Harris’s standing within the crypto sector. The group will hold a town hall meeting on Wednesday, featuring prominent crypto figures such as Mark Cuban.
Crypto4Harris outlined its mission on X: “Crypto is building a movement to support Kamala Harris. A coalition of industry leaders, policy experts, and crypto enthusiasts is organizing to back Harris and advocate for a progressive policy stance on digital assets.”
Trump’s election odds on Polymarket spiked to 75% following an attempted assassination at a rally, but have since declined to 46%. Elon Musk is scheduled to have a live conversation with Trump on X today at 8:00 PM ET, with speculation that Trump may make a return to Twitter afterward.
