The Transmission Company of Nigeria has attributed a power outage in parts of Kaduna South to the collapse of Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II in Rigasa community.
The collapse occurred on September 18, 2025, due to a severe downpour and windstorm, which was worsened by vandalism of the tower’s structural members.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, explained that the company’s engineers discovered during inspection that vandals had removed some components of the tower, making it vulnerable to collapse.
The incident disrupted bulk power transmission to some Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company load centers, especially those supplying electricity to parts of Kaduna South.
To mitigate the impact, TCN directed KAEDCO to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, enabling electricity customers in Mogadishu to access power supply.
Areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain unaffected and continue to enjoy normal electricity supply.
“TCN engineers are already at the site, dismantling the collapsed tower members to clear the area and commence re-erection of a new tower,” the statement said.
TCN apologized to affected customers, assuring them that it is working round the clock to restore supply and minimize the duration of the outage.
“We apologize for the inconvenience the incident has caused the affected customers in Southern Kaduna, and we sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding as we continue to work round the clock to build a new tower. Please note that every effort is being made to minimize the duration of the outage,” the statement added.
