The biggest music company in South Korea, HYBE was able to release a song by the artist MIDNATT in six different languages of Korean, English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese with the use of AI technology.

Although several K-pop artists have released songs in languages other than their native Korean, such as English and Japanese, HYBE claims that using the new technology for a simultaneous six-language release is a world first and may pave the door for its use by more well-known artists.

“We would first listen to the reaction, the voice of the fans, then decide what our next steps should be,” the head of HYBE’s interactive media, said Chung Wooyong said in an interview with Reuters.

Lee Hyun, 40, better known as MIDNATT, recorded the song “Masquerade” in each language despite having minimal knowledge of both English and Chinese in addition to his native Korean.

Native speakers read the words, and then HYBE’s in-house AI music technology flawlessly merged the two, according to Chung.

The song is the most recent indication of AI’s expanding impact in the music business at a time when the Grammy Awards have instituted stricter guidelines for its use and AI-generated song mash-ups are taking over social media.

According to Supertone COO Choi Hee-doo, the song sounds more natural when deep learning is used in conjunction with the Neural Analysis and Synthesis framework created by the company.
