Jaguar Land Rover recalls 121,500 vehicles in US over suspension fault

Jaguar Land Rover, owned by India’s Tata Motors, is recalling more than 121,500 vehicles in the United States due to a potential safety defect in the front suspension, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Wednesday.

According to the regulator, the recall affects certain Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models that may have cracked front suspension knuckles. The defect could compromise steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers multiple production years, though the NHTSA did not specify exact dates in its initial notice. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly and instructed to bring their cars to authorised dealers for inspection and, if necessary, free replacement of the faulty parts.

Suspension knuckles are a critical component of a vehicle’s steering and suspension system, connecting the wheel hub to the suspension and allowing for controlled turning and stability. Cracks or failures in this part could cause sudden loss of handling, particularly during high-speed driving or emergency manoeuvres.

JLR has not reported any accidents or injuries linked to the issue so far. The company said it became aware of the defect through internal testing and field reports, prompting a voluntary recall in coordination with the NHTSA.

The British luxury carmaker, which sells its vehicles globally, has been working to address several quality-control concerns in recent years as part of its “Reimagine” strategy to boost brand reliability and shift towards electric mobility.

Dealers are expected to begin repairs immediately, and JLR has advised owners to schedule service appointments promptly once notified. The NHTSA will continue to monitor the recall process to ensure compliance and timely corrective action.
