iPhone update allows users set WhatsApp as default app

iPhone users can now designate WhatsApp as their default app for calls and text messages, following the latest update to version 25.8.74.

The change, first reported by WABetaInfo, allows users to select WhatsApp as their preferred option in the device’s Messaging and calling default app settings.

Apple had initially announced that iPhone users in the European Union would gain the ability to change their default phone and messaging apps. However, the company later confirmed that this feature would be available to all users with the rollout of iOS 18.2.

To set WhatsApp as the default messaging and calling app, users can navigate to Settings > Apps > Default Apps, then select their preferred option under Messaging and Calling.

Once changed, the iPhone will automatically launch WhatsApp when users tap a phone number on a webpage or initiate a message from their contacts list.
