Instagram is internally testing the capacity to produce Reels that are up to 10 minutes long, TechCrunch reported on Wednesday.
The social media giant claims that it is not testing the capacity, however Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer, revealed photos of the internal prototype where the feature was first discovered.
Reels’ time limit would be raised from three to ten minutes, bringing Instagram’s short-form video service into line with TikTok, which increased its maximum video length to ten minutes back in February 2022. With the modification, Reels would face off against YouTube.
The longer length would provide producers more time and freedom when recording things like cooking videos, beauty lessons, instructional content, comic skits and more when it is formally implemented.
The news comes as Instagram has been introducing a number of platform upgrades. A new feature that enables creators to add noteworthy fan comments they have received on posts and Reels to their Stories is being tested, the firm disclosed on Tuesday.
