Instagram is considering launching a separate app for its short-form video feature, Reels, as it seeks to capitalize on TikTok’s uncertain future in the U.S., according to a report by The Information on Wednesday.

The move, reportedly disclosed by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri to staff this week, suggests Meta-owned Instagram is aiming to provide a dedicated video-scrolling experience similar to TikTok.

This isn’t Meta’s first attempt at competing with TikTok. In January, the company introduced Edits, a video-editing app seemingly designed to rival TikTok’s CapCut.

It also launched Lasso in 2018, a standalone short-video platform, but later shut it down due to lack of traction.
