Instagram has quietly launched a new feature allowing users to schedule direct messages, the Meta-owned platform confirmed on Monday.
The global rollout of this capability aims to benefit creators, brands, and regular users alike. The feature allows users to schedule messages for optimal times, making it particularly useful for brands and influencers managing outreach campaigns or for individuals coordinating across time zones. Users can also set reminders to be sent at specific future moments.
To schedule a DM, users simply type out a message, hold down the send button, and select a date and time for delivery. According to testing, messages can be scheduled up to 29 days in advance.
Once a message is scheduled, a banner in the chat will display the number of scheduled messages until they are sent.
This update is part of Instagram’s broader effort to enhance its messaging capabilities. Recently, the platform introduced new tools for creators, including options to filter and sort message requests based on factors like follower count, verification status, and account type.
For general users, Instagram has also added features such as location sharing through DMs, directly competing with services like Apple’s Find My and Snapchat’s Snap Map, and the ability to assign custom nicknames in chats.
