Instagram is enhancing its Stories feature by allowing users to comment directly on posts, a significant change from the previous setup where responses could only be sent via direct messages.
This new feature offers a more visible way for users to engage with their friends’ Stories. However, the original poster won’t receive these comments in their DMs; according to a Meta representative, “comments live only on your Story.”
Users can choose to enable or disable comments for each individual Story. If comments are enabled, they will be visible to anyone following the account, but only mutual followers can leave comments. Similar to the Stories themselves, these comments will disappear after 24 hours. Small profile pictures of the commenters will appear at the bottom of a Story icon, indicating that comments are attached to the post.
Despite the new commenting option, users can still respond to Stories via DM if the account settings allow for it. Additionally, if someone comments on a Story, others can respond to that comment by sending a DM, which can be done by swiping left on the comment and tapping the DM icon.
Instagram continues to expand its Story features, offering users more ways to enhance their posts. Stories can now be created using customizable templates, AI-generated backgrounds, and an increasing selection of interactive stickers.
