ICYMI: FG launches CNG e-portal for youths

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has launched a Compressed Natural Gas e-portal aimed at youths in the commercial transport sector interested in operating CNG-powered tricycles nationwide.

This initiative is designed to promote sustainable transportation solutions and empower young entrepreneurs in the industry.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, at a press conference in his office on Monday, according to The PUNCH.

It was previously reported that the Federal Government, through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative and the Ministry of Youth Development, launched the distribution of 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles on October 1 to empower Nigerian youth.

In his address during the flag-off event, the Project Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Michael Oluwagbemi stated that the distribution of the tricycles represents the fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s promises.

He highlighted the initiative’s goals to reduce transportation costs, improve economic well-being, promote environmental sustainability through the use of clean fuel, and create job opportunities for the youth population by introducing CNG-powered vehicles.

Speaking on Monday, Olawande explained that the portal aimed to build transparency around the process of enlisting young Nigerians into the Presidential CNG initiative programme in the transport sector.

“Through the portal, youth anywhere from across Nigeria can sign up to be merged with aggregators or owners who work directly with the PiCNG programme, while beginning the process of becoming owners themselves.

“In simple terms, what we aim to achieve with the youth portal we are about to launch is to build transparency around the process of enlisting youth into the Presidential CNG Initiative in the transportation sector.

“What this means is that we are opening the process, and any young person willing and ready to take advantage of the program can participate. This is consistent with the aspiration of President Ahmed Tinubu, who desires that all government programmes and initiatives of government offer the same level of opportunity to everyone, either rich or poor, low or high.”

He urged all youths involved in the commercial transportation sector, or those interested in joining, to register for the benefits offered through the Presidential Initiative on CNG (PiCNG) as part of the President’s palliative program.

The minister encouraged interested individuals to visit the portal at www.youthcng.ng or www.pci.gov.ng/tricycle to register for the CNG program.
