IBM has unveiled the latest version of its artificial intelligence model, “Granite 3.0,” aiming to meet the increasing demand from businesses adopting generative AI technology.
Released on Monday, these models will be made open-source, following the trend established by previous versions in IBM’s Granite family, and distinguishing the company from competitors like Microsoft (MSFT.O), which charges for model access.
Additionally, IBM offers a paid tool, Watsonx, designed to help businesses run and customize these models within their data centers.
Starting Monday, certain variants of the Granite models will be available for commercial use on the Watsonx platform and through Nvidia’s suite of software tools, which facilitate AI model integration.
Dario Gil, IBM’s director of research, noted that the new Granite models were trained using Nvidia’s H100 graphics processing units, positioning IBM to leverage cutting-edge technology in the evolving AI landscape.
