5G is the next-generation wireless communication network that will not just be faster, more dependable, and safer than 4G, but also deliver speeds up to 30 times faster than 4G.
The 5G network offers faster transmission speeds, lower latency, and thus higher capacity for remote execution. It also supports a greater number of connected devices and the implementation of virtual networks (network slicing), allowing for more tailored connectivity to specific demands.
A 5G enabled smartphone is one method to enjoy the 5G network. So, unless your phone is 5G-enabled, you’ll need to purchase a new 5G phone to connect to the 5G network.
As of now, 5G is available in certified sites across the country which includes Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Owerri, Ibadan, Maiduguri, Abeokuta, Shagamu, Warri, Enugu, Benin City and Ifo.
In Nigeria, there are basically two ways to connect to 5G: Either via a 5G router or using a 4G sim (which is also 5G enabled) on a phone that is both 5G-compatible and 5G-enabled.
5G-compatible phones are constructed with 5G network technologies, allowing them to connect to 5G networks anywhere they are accessible. Recent models from Samsung, iPhone, Redmi, Xiaomi, Nokia, and Huwaei, among others, are compatible.
The 5G router is the second option, and it is a non-restrictive way for everyone in Nigeria to get 5G. Users can purchase the gadget from any 5G operator, and if they are within a 5G site, they can connect to the 5G network over WiFi using any device.
According to IT experts, 5G will surely demand more data for the smooth experience it gives, but it will not differ significantly from the experience of present 4G customers.
Mobile Network Operators are now shutting down 2G and 3G networks. By retiring 3G and 2G, these radio frequencies can be repurposed for faster, more energy-efficient 4G and 5G services.
However, according to the founder of the Mafab communications telecomms company, Musbahu Muhammad Bashir, 5G would allow businesses to expand their borders with operational simplicity and speed, particularly in the sector of education.
Mafab communications won a 5G license during the globally-acclaimed transparent 5G auction conducted by the NCC this year.
Bashir stated, “It is no secret that the countries that can provide their citizens with the most advanced network infrastructure, as represented by 5G technology, will also thrive in the coming years.
“They will be the ones who remain competitive and lead in innovation while also providing socioeconomic benefits to their citizens.”
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, stated that 5G has great benefits for security institutions because there are technologies in security that leverage on it, allowing security institutions to adequately manage security circumstances.
