A total of 74 contractors have submitted bids to maintain and install street lights in the AMAC area of the Federal Capital Territory, including the city center.

The financial bid opening ceremony took place at Archives House and History Bureau in Abuja, following a technical bid process that disqualified some contractors for non-compliance.

The bid is divided into 21 lots, covering various districts and areas, including the Airport Expressway, Maitama, Apo, Asokoro, and Garki districts.

Some residents and stakeholders have expressed concerns about awarding sensitive contracts to new contractors without experience, particularly on presidential and airport roads.

Kazeem Fashola, a Guzape resident, questioned the award of the bid to a company with no experience in streetlight maintenance, citing security concerns and technical requirements.

Another resident, Mrs. Victoria Aloba, wondered why the contractor was changed despite the good condition of the streetlights along the Airport Road.

The FCTA Department of Procurement Deputy Director, Dr. Kabir Suleiman, assured that the technical bid process followed procurement law and was published in March, according to TheNation.

The contract award process is expected to be transparent and merit-based, with a focus on delivering quality street light maintenance services to the FCT.
