Honda debuts US EVs, plans advanced chip integration

Honda Motor Co. unveiled prototypes of its latest electric vehicles—a sedan and an SUV—featuring a new in-house software operating system, Asimo, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The 0 Series sedan and mid-size SUV are set to be produced at Honda’s Ohio plant, with sales expected to begin in early 2026, according to Bloomberg.

The sedan and SUV are part of Honda’s ambitious plan to launch 30 new EV models globally by 2030.

The company aims for 100% zero-emission automobile sales in North America by 2040 but has signaled flexibility if EV demand continues to decline.

Production of EVs will begin this year at Honda’s Marysville, Ohio, plant, which will also produce gas-powered cars.

The EVs will feature batteries supplied by Honda’s $4.4 billion joint-venture factory with LG Energy Solution Ltd.

Overlaid with the automaker’s artificial intelligence software, the companies aim to develop a system “that achieves one of the industry’s top class AI performances,” Honda said.

Honda revealed a partnership with Japan’s Renesas Electronics Corp. to create a high-performance system-on-chip for its 0 Series models later this decade.

The chip will consolidate multiple functions into a single electronic control unit, simplifying vehicle systems and improving efficiency.
