The Italian cyber security agency on Tuesday, reported that it had found evidence of hacking attacks on websites belonging to at least five banks.
A spokesperson for the agency told Reuters that Intesa Sanpaolo, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, BPER Banca, FinecoBank, and Banca Popolare di Sondrio were among the targeted financial institutions.
The agency “identified the reactivation of Distributed Denial of Service attack campaigns by pro-Russian … groups against national institutional subjects,” a statement said.
The cyber-attack made it impossible for the banks to perform financial operations.
Hackers try to overwhelm a network with unusually high amounts of data traffic during DDoS assaults to bring it to a halt.
The agency claimed that in order to lessen the effects of the attacks, it gave prompt assistance to the businesses that were the target of attacks by Noname057(16) group activists.
