GTBank's app upgrade leaves customers frustrated

Customers of Guaranty Trust Bank lamented on Friday about using the bank’s mobile app as the bank’s digital operations were disrupted.

The development happened in the midst of an app upgrade that was supposed to enhance and add new capabilities to the bank’s mobile transactions but instead caused login problems and other problems for users.

Customers of the bank were notified on Tuesday via text and email that the app would be automatically upgraded to the new version on July 12.

“We will launch the redesigned and improved GTWorld Mobile Banking App to Play Store and App Store on July 12th. In light of this, when you launch the GTWorld Mobile Banking App, you will see a newly designed interface if you have App Updates set on automatic.

“However, if App Update is not set to automatic on your mobile device, you will need to manually update your GTWorld Mobile App to experience the newly designed app. Please note that we will discontinue support of the current version of the GTWorld App on 12 August,” the message read.

Some customers claimed that after inputting their phone numbers, the software froze, preventing them from moving forward. Others said that after numerous failed attempts to log in, their accounts had been locked.

Some consumers deleted the app in an effort to fix the login problems when they were at their wit’s end, only to discover that both the new and old versions of the app were gone from the App Store.

One consumer, Oluwadamilare, claimed, “I even deleted it, and now I can’t find both the new and old app on the App Store.”

Customer Olukotun Gideon stated: “I came to Twitter for this. My app’s icon recently changed, so I decided to check in. I tried numerous times till I was locked out. I tried again an hour later, and things went worse. Then I opted to install but after uninstalling… Sadly, it’s no longer available on the App Store. GTB… Let us breathe.”

Despite the numerous complaints from GTBank clients, the bank has not yet resolved the issue.
