Guaranty Trust Bank has announced an upward review of its SMS transaction alert fee, raising the charge from ₦4 to ₦6 per message. The new rate will take effect on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
In a message to customers on Wednesday, the bank stated: “Dear valued customer, please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1, 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message.”
GTBank attributed the adjustment to increased charges by telecommunications service providers. “This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers,” the notice read.
The bank also reaffirmed the importance of SMS alerts in maintaining account security and transparency, noting that they help customers track their account activity and detect potential fraud.
“Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” GTBank emphasized.
However, customers who prefer not to receive SMS alerts have the option to opt out by updating their notification preferences. According to the bank, this can be done by completing a transaction alert form available on its website and sending it to [email protected].
GTBank encouraged customers with further questions to contact its customer support channels for assistance.
