President Bola Tinubu has restated Nigeria’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Brazil, describing the $1 billion Green Imperative Programme as a landmark initiative set to revolutionise the country’s agricultural sector through modern technology and capacity development.
He made the remarks on Tuesday evening at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with the Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, calling the programme a key pillar of the deepening partnership between both nations.
In a post on his verified X handle @officialABAT, President Tinubu stated, “The landmark $1 billion Green Imperative Programme, a bilateral agricultural mechanisation initiative anchored by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in collaboration with Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and private sector stakeholders, stands as a flagship of this renewed partnership”
He emphasized that the initiative is “designed to transform Nigeria’s agricultural value chain through technology transfer, capacity building, and the establishment of service centres across the country.”
President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the high-level meeting, noted that the visit of the Brazilian delegation marked a transition from symbolic goodwill to tangible actions aimed at advancing shared economic and developmental objectives.
President Tinubu highlighted several strategic areas where Nigeria and Brazil are deepening collaboration, including agribusiness and food security, trade and industrialisation, energy transition, healthcare, innovation, defence cooperation, and cultural exchange.
He noted that Nigeria is gearing up for active participation in the upcoming COP30 Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil — presenting yet another opportunity to strengthen joint efforts on climate action and sustainable development.
“We also look forward to Nigeria’s active participation at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, as both nations work to scale up collaboration on climate action, energy transition, and environmental resilience,” he said.
Tinubu described the revitalised Nigeria-Brazil partnership as one rooted in shared prosperity and practical cooperation — spanning renewable energy initiatives to creative industry collaborations — and driven by a results-oriented diplomatic approach.
Nigeria remains firmly committed to building resilient South–South partnerships anchored in mutual respect, shared prosperity, and tangible results for our citizens,” the President added.
President Tinubu also sent a message of solidarity in Portuguese, echoing Brazil’s maxim for unity: “As our Brazilian friends say, ‘Juntos somos mais fortes’—together we are stronger.”
