Google on Thursday vowed to defend users of generative AI systems on its Google Cloud and workspace platform if they are accused of violating intellectual property.

Google’s promise followed Microsoft, Adobe, and other businesses that had made similar commitments.

Major firms are rushing to include generative AI into their businesses, investing extensively like Google. The use of their work to train AI systems and the content those systems produce, according to prominent authors, artists, and other copyright owners, both infringe their rights.

Additionally, the company stated that the indemnity is not applicable if customers “intentionally create or use generated output to infringe the rights of others”.

Companies that own the systems, such as Google, have typically been the targets of the recent wave of generative AI litigation rather than specific end users.
