Google on Tuesday launched Android 14 Beta 4 as the company gets ready for the official launch of the operating system update.

The updated version largely addresses bugs but also adds a cool function to simplify unlocking.

The new “auto-confirm unlock” option in the Beta 4’s settings automatically unlocks the phone once you enter the proper PIN, which must be at least six numbers long.

Previously, after entering the PIN code, you had to hit enter to confirm. Google cautions that using auto-unlocking is “slightly less secure” than having to acknowledge the activity in the settings menu.

The Ring volume and Notification volume sliders in prior beta versions were interdependent, making it impossible to increase the Ring volume without also increasing the Notification level. These two controls are now completely independent in the most recent upgrade, according to Android researcher Mishaal Rahman.

New default profile images, support for the beta version on tablets and foldable devices, a better tablet widget picker, and a more prominent placement of the slipt screen option in the long press menu are just a few of the other enhancements in Android 14 Beta 4. Google phones, such as the Pixel 4a and newer, can download the new update right now.

The back gesture has been improved in Android version 14, along with language options that are specific to each app, a screenshot detection API, and a new picture picker that enables users to provide access to specific photos to specific apps.
