Google on Monday launched a new offline-first dictation app for iOS, called Google AI Edge Eloquent, aimed at competing with apps like Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, and Willow.
The app is free to download. Once you install it and download its Gemma-based automatic speech recognition models, you can start dictating directly on your phone.
The app provides live transcription as you speak, and when you pause, it automatically removes filler words like “um” and “ah” while refining the text.
Users can transform the transcript using options like “Key points,” “Formal,” “Short,” and “Long.”
Google AI Edge Eloquent can import selected keywords, names, and specialized terms from your Gmail account, and you can also add custom words manually.
The app keeps a full history of your transcription sessions, allowing you to search through them easily. It also tracks session details, including words dictated in the last session, your words-per-minute speed, and the total word count.
“Google AI Edge Eloquent is an advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text. Unlike standard dictation software that transcribes stumbles and filler words verbatim, Eloquent utilizes AI to capture your intended meaning. It automatically edits out ‘ums,’ ‘uhs,’ and mid-sentence self-corrections, outputting clean, accurate prose,” the company’s App Store description reads.
